Two Peas

One of my favorite things about having a girl and a boy is seeing the different relationships Jeff is developing the kids. With Isaac Jeff is rougher. They wrestle and grunt at each other a lot. But with Anna, Jeff has always been sweet and soft. And contrasting his interactions with Isaac, the sweetness is even sweeter.

Case in point. I caught these two playing together outside unobserved. Jeff had Anna in stitches as he insisted she was a little bird perched in the tree. Anna giggled and giggled and tried to convince Jeff she was "just Anna!" Until she saw me and said, "Look Mom, I'm a little bird in this tree."

Then, with great tenderness, Jeff lifted her from the tree, set her down, hugged her and off she went to play with something else.

Later when I was asked her about playing in the tree she told me in a low voice, "When I'm a mom I'm going to marry dad."

Party Girl

Anna loves to throw pretend birthday parties. It usually starts out, "Mom! It's your birthday pretend!" Then she makes a cake, wraps presents, and puts on a "fancy party dress." The girl has got some style.

"The Best Halloween I Ever Had!"

What a beautiful day Halloween was this year! It was so fun to be in Utah with cousins and grandparents for the holiday. The weather was gorgeous and in the sixties. We trick-or-treated with the Sollis' cousins through Grandma Marlene's neighborhood and then ended at Grandma Black's to help pass out candy.

Anna was a perfect princess. Her costume was complete with glass slippers and Cinderella fancy hair. As we walked around collecting candy, Anna kept yelling, "This is the best Halloween I ever had!"

Isaac was not such a fan it his getup. I can't blame the boy since I stuffed him in the same 0-6 month skunk costume he wore last year as a newborn. It was a riot, however, watching him power crawl around the yard with white stripes following behind.

Not So Good.

I decided that since our pumpkin patch experience was such a roaring success, I'd take the kids back for a second round and then hit up Krispie Kreme for some hot chocolate and donuts. Maybe we'd even hit up Target and pick out some Halloween treats from the dollar bins. We'd get all bundled up fallish-like and make some cozy memories.

Because I'm cool like that.

Or not.

After a windy, whiny, not-even-as-fun-as-the-first-time fifteen minutes at the patch we went in for round two at the doughnut shop. Here's how it went:

Exhibit A: Not a fan of said pastry shop.

Exhibit B: Scalding hot chocolate all over me and half the seating area. (I may or may not have let an expletive slip out under my breath.)

Exhibit C: Cheeky child who had to remind me over and over how it was me that spilled, not her.
We didn't go to Target.
